  • Bible : Nonfiction : Textbook | New International Version Bible | | 1 Each
  • If you have not already done so, read the story of Gideon in Judges 6-8. Go to your Bible or to the 'docs' tab above. Select the 'successful' response when you are finished.
  • Read Judges 6:15:

“But Lord,” Gideon replied, “how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least in my entire family!”

How unqualified do you feel to carry out God's calling and mission?
  • From your understanding of the Bible, how important to God is it to choose men and women who have the 'proper worldly credentials' to carry out his plans?
  • In all honesty, how overwhelmed are you by the magnitude of God's calling and mission in your life?
  • Read Judges 6:16:

"The Lord said to him, “I will be with you. And you will destroy the Midianites as if you were fighting against one man.”

How does God respond to Gideon's very reasonable concerns about his lack of qualifications to carry out God's assignment?
  • Read Judges 6:17-18:

"Gideon replied, “If you are truly going to help me, show me a sign to prove that it is really the Lord speaking to me. Don’t go away until I come back and bring my offering to you.”

How important is it to confirm that its God speaking to you before you accept your mission?
  • Gideon's method of validating that the Lord is speaking to him is to make Him an offering (a gift).

What does it say about Gideon that his method of questioning the Lord is to offer Him a gift?
  • How do you validate that the Lord is speaking to you? How does it compare to Gideon's method?
  • Read Judges 6:22:

When Gideon realized that it was the angel of the Lord, he cried out, “Oh, Sovereign Lord, I’m doomed! I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face!”

Select 'successful' when you are finished.
  • Once Gideon knows that it is the Lord speaking to him, he experiences the 'Fear of the Lord'.

Proverbs 1:7 reads: "Fear of the LORD is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline."

What is the significance of the fear of the Lord in your calling and mission?
  • How much are you experiencing the fear of the Lord?
  • As a reminder, the next isoBlog in this course "Part 3 "Why Are My Resources Disappearing?"' will appear tomorrow in your Day Plan.
